It's About Community
In our early days, Freedom House Church adopted the stretch of Us Highway 29 between Pavilion Boulevard and Mallard Creek Church Road. As the "proud parents" of that stretch, several times a year we go out en masse and remove the litter and debris that have accumulated since our last cleanup.
Besides being a great fellowship opportunity, the cleanup is also a simple yet important way to impact our community. After all, our vision is to be more than another church on the corner. We care about our neighborhood, and we want to be good neighbors--even in this small way!
How It Works
Once a quarter we invite FHC to participate in this cleanup. We meet in the parking lot of Starlight Cinemas (on the corner of Pavilion and Tryon), and vests, gloves and trash bags are distributed to every participant. From there we begin walking down one side of US 29, picking up litter along the way. Once we reach Mallard Creek Church, we cross the road and head back up Tryon toward Starlight. We do not pick up litter from the median.
What To Bring/Wear
Supplies (including drinking water) are provided. You should wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind dirtying. We recommend long pants and socks to protect your feet and ankles from dry grass and other skin irritants. Apply sunblock to protect your skin, and consider wearing a hat and/or sunglasses as well.
Who Can Help
We want anyone who wants to help to do so. In fact, the cleanup is a great family project! However, we cannot allow children under 12 to participate for safety reasons.
Would you like to help? Join us for our next cleanup. As we get closer to the next date, the online sign-up form will be available below. Thanks for helping FHC to be a good neighbor!
